Do you leave your door open during the day? Do you open your windows in warm weather? Do you go out or come home alone without protection? Do you have any plan for securing your home against burglary and yourself against violent crimes? What do the police say we should do to help our chances to not be a statistic?
- Install and use alarms on entrance areas: doors and windows.
- Secure all entrance areas: install deadbolts, use door and window jammers, improve the sturdiness of door and window construction if needed, lock doors, lock rear storm door, ensure adequate outdoor lighting, and generally do what it takes to make access to your home harder.
- Prevent false alarms by training everyone who uses your system properly
- Also use local number dial-up alarms that call you or neighbors can prevent false alarms
- Routinely inspect your security. Ask yourself how you would break in.
- Make it look like somebody’s home [signs of occupancy …lights on, noise inside from radio or TV, mailbox empty)
- Increase outdoor lighting
- Use surveillance equipment
- Use a personal alarm especially if you go out by yourself.
Here are some facts about crime you may not be aware of:
- Most burglaries are residential
- Most residential burglaries occur during the day!
- Most studies indicate that robbers avoid homes with alarms and if they do still burglarize the home they will be hasty and stay a shorter time, thus take less
- Burglars more often use the front door, because its often left open.
- Most burglaries happen in the summer!
- 95% of alarms reported are false alarms.
- The US ranks #8 in the world for murders, #6 for assaults, and #9 for rapes.
- 85% of all burglaries occur in cities.

Our Story: Once when we lived in the city our apartment was broken into and our two oldest boys (who were very small at the time) were sleeping. Cathie was home with the boys and Tom was moonlighting late that night. The boys were sleeping soundly, and Cathie went to turn on a bath. Out from behind the bathroom door jumped a very disturbed young man (...about 20 or so years old) who had every intention to rape Cathie). The first thing Cathie thought of was the boys. "Oh no! What if he uses them to get to me?" The images of horror fleeted past her as she was beaten by this man. Imagine what her horror would have been if this man had gotten one or both of her little boys up to wittness her rape! Thankfully through trickery and sheer willpower, Cathie managed to flee the would-be rapist and get help from a neighbor. The boys never did wake up, even when the police came. Cathie escaped getting raped that day, over 30 years ago, but the incident is just as fresh in Cathie's mind as if it happened yesterday. With rape statistics climbing, along with every other type of crime, a decent, honest citizen is ever-increasingly at risk of some kind of crime against their property or family. Don't say you can't afford a decent reliable home security system. With the prices that we can offer you in a package deal (as described above) you can do it. Don't wait till you've been harmed, robbed or traumatized to decide to take action. The only reason you need to justify the expense of a good home-security system is "it's 2009"...that says it in a nutshell. Look at what's going on around you....drugs, sexual promiscuity, delinquency....these are all ingredients for crime. Take action. Don't be a statistic...give us a call today: TLC--HOME ...1-888-420-1420
What could have prevented this situation? The answer is simple. Just the simplest little $5.00 door alarm would have scared this criminal away. Criminals don't think, they react. They will not enter if they set off an alarm. Often just official-looking signs that indicate your property is protected or monitored are enough to scare them off. Naturally, they don't want to get caught. When 90% of the people who live by you do not have protection, if you do....they'll go somewhere else. This is an almost word-for-word quote from not one, but many policemen we've personally spoken with. Ask them yourselves. Simple alarms and signs work. Get them, and use them. It makes the world of difference.
